Coconut Festival
In late March or early April each year, the islanders celebrate the 'Coconut Festival’ with coconut lanterns, a dragon boat race and martial art competitions.

Sanyuesan Carnival
On the third day of the Chinese lunar calendar (in March), the nationality of Li worship their ancestors and pray for a good harvest. On that day, the young celebrate love and traditional Li wedding ceremonies are open to visitors.

Dragon Boat Festival
The traditional Dragon Boat Festival honors the ancient poet Qu Yuan who drowned 2300 years ago on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. On that day, the people of Hainan eat Dragon Boat Rice Cakes, compete in Dragon Boat races and kite flying and splash themselves with ‘Dragon Water’ for health and prosperity.

Dragon Lifting Its Head Festival
On the 2nd day of the 2nd lunar month, hundreds of fishing boats gather near the Sanya Cave Park to worship the Dragon King of the South China Sea.

Danzhou Folk Song Festival
Mountain folk songs, singing competitions and games mark the Danzhou Folk Song Festival held every year in mid-autumn.

International Tropical Orchid Expo
Organized by the Sanya city municipal government, the orchid expo is an international event that features both native orchids and those grown in other tropical regions. Highlights: Academic forums on orchids and orchid growing, on-site floral design competitions, calligraphy, orchid shops and art auctions.
